New Yorkers for Transportation Equity (NYFTE)
Get New Yorkers Where We Need to Go!!
Whether we are in Riverhead or Rochester, Buffalo or the Bronx, Putnam or Potsdam, we all need more healthy, clean and affordable ways to get around. Public transit moves millions of riders each day in New York’s 62 counties employing thousands of workers and bolstering the economy of both urban and rural economies throughout our state. Accessible trains, buses, walking and bicycling routes build vibrant and inclusive communities and afford us freedom of access to basic needs without relying on a car.
There is more federal money available for transportation projects than at any time in history thanks to the 2021 US Infrastructure Improvement and Jobs Act (IIJA).
New York State can dramatically improve how these dollars are spent, expanding and re-prioritizing our transportation spending to connect families, seniors and youth to jobs, school, food, healthcare and commerce. It’s time for our lawmakers and transportation officials to ask our Governor to stop widening roads, fix roads first and stand up for viable, affordable, equitable, green transportation options for the people of our state.
The decision to direct more spending to transit, biking and walking is made by our Governor and other leaders in state government. We are committed to changing the “norm” and setting new transportation goals that will not only connect and improve our neighborhoods but protect the air we breathe, the water we drink and the land we call home for generations to come. We call on our state’s leaders to use federal and state transportation money to prioritize transit, biking and walking projects. We call on the Governor to use her leadership to fulfill the goals of New York’s new Climate law and the US DOT’s Justice 40.
Together, we can create a New York where all New Yorkers can get where they need to go.
