Astronomy is Amazing (Nairobi/East Africa Time) - Instructor: Adirah Aishet-Tsalmiel, MAT - Whether day or night, the sky is filled with so many wondrous things. In this 8-week class, students will explore the celestial bodies through engaging lessons and hands-on experiments. Every lesson features a scientist of African ancestry and activities to complete at home. This class is suitable for ages 7 to 13. Class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 am to 12 pm starting 5th October through 25th November. Students will present final projects the week of 29th November. Class costs Ksh 7200. A class supply list will be sent separately. Payment plans and sibling discounts are available upon request.
Astronomy is Amazing (US Eastern Standard Time) - Instructor: Adirah Aishet-Tsalmiel, MAT - Whether day or night, the sky is filled with so many wondrous things. World Literature (Nairobi Time) - Instructor: Adirah Aishet-Tsalmiel, MAT - This class will take students on a tour around the world as we explore various literary works. Genres will include poetry, historical fiction, plays and biographical narratives. As scholars engage with each piece of literature, they will also make cultural connections and analyze major historical periods such as Red Summer in the US and the Nazi Reign in Germany.. Our travels will take us across continents and countries including Haiti, Spain, South America and Asia. This class is suitable for high school students or ages 14 and up. Class meets on Tuesdays from 9:00 am - 10:30 am starting October 12th through November 30th. Class costs Ksh 4800.
Finding the Hero in You (US Eastern Standard Time) - Instructor: Adirah Aishet-Tsalmiel, MAT - In this fun-filled class, students will learn how they can take steps to solve society's predicaments by uncovering their inner heroes and heroines. Students will explore historical changemakers and identify a cause they support. In addition, students will analyze the science behind superpowers and venture out on a virtual comic book field trip. As the final project, students will present an original comic that highlights a global challenge, starring themselves as the character that saves the day! This class is suitable for ages 8 to 13. Class meets on Tuesdays from 2 pm to 3 pm from October 12th through December7th. No class will be held on November 23rd. Class costs $65 USD.
Black Ink in Comics (Nairobi/East African Time) - Instructor: Adoniyah Ben-Tsalmiel - Most black children grow up being exposed to popular Caucasian comic book writers and artists behind characters like Captain America and Superman. In this class, students will learn about comic book characters created by African American comic artists and writers like Dwayne McDuffie (writer behind superhero “Icon”) and Aaron McGruder (writer and artist behind “The Boondocks”). As we study former and current Black comic legends, students will get the opportunity to take what they have learned and create a comic book character in a story of their own creation. Using inexpensive art tools, students will feel more confident expressing themselves artistically and telling stories using the comic book format. This class is suitable for ages 8 to 13. Class meets on Thursdays from 2 to 3 pm starting 7th October through 25th November. Class costs Ksh 3600 for the entire 8 week session. Payment plans and sibling discounts are available.
Introduction to Chinese (Nairobi/East African Time) - Instructor: Kadmiel Ben-Tsalmiel - Ni hao! Get ready to explore Chinese culture with engaging lessons and fun activities. Students will become familiar with basic greetings, foods, numbers, colours and family members to lay a solid foundation for language learning. This class is suitable for ages 6 to 8. Class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 pm to 1:30 pm. Classes start 5th October and run through 11th November. Class costs Ksh 6000. Payments plans are available.
Class Policies: Classes will begin October 4th and run through December 17th. Fees vary by class and region and are due in advance (unless a payment plan has been authorized). All classes require a minimum of 5 students enrolled for the class to be held. If for any reason, your family is not satisfied with a class, a refund can be requested. The refund policy is up to Week 2 or the 2nd class 75% refund will be given; up to Week 4 (or Week 3 of a 6-week session) 50% refund; after Week 4 (or Week 3 of a 6-week session), no refunds will be issued. Make-up sessions will only be scheduled if the instructor has an emergency and has to cancel class. Classes will be recorded and will be available only for students who missed a class.
