The Acadia Research Gong Show will be taking place in the K.C. Irving Science Centre on
March 26, 2025 from 6-8 pm. Undergraduate research students, graduate students, AND professors are all invited to participate. There are 30 presentation slots, 12 for undergraduate, 12 for graduate, and 6 for professors. The deadline for signup is
March 22nd, 2025.
**If you signup after the slots are filled, you will automatically be added to a waitlist. If a presenter drops out, the first in line for that category will be moved to the open slot.
**The Acadia email system quarantines the emails from this sign-up sheet, be sure to monitor for emails with the subject: "Microsoft 365 security: You have messages in quarantine". If signing up with a personal e-mail, monitor your junk inbox for updates.
**If you do not receive any confirmation email within 6 hours of registration, send a follow-up email to:
JesseDemaries-Smith@AcadiaU.ca stating your name, and email used to signup.
**If you signed up but need to back out for any reason, please email
JesseDemaries-Smith@AcadiaU.ca ASAP so your slot can go to someone on the waitlist.
The rules for the Gong Show are as follows:
You have 3 minutes to condense and present your research in a way that makes it accessible (NO JARGON!) for students and professors in other disciplines to follow.
If you go over the designated 3 minutes, you will be "gonged" off stage (yes, we have a real gong).
You must submit your presentation in powerpoint format by March 23rd, 2025 at 9 pm Atlantic time (a link for submitting will be circulated in late March). A schedule for presentations will be released on March 25th, 2025.
There will be small prizes for best undergraduate, graduate, and professor talk voted on by all participants in the Gong Show.
Votes will be based on:
Accessibility of research: can someone with no background on the topic follow what the research is?
Presentation: Overall, how does the presentation look and flow?
Engagement: Was the presentation enjoyable, engaging, and memorable?
