Our tour starts with learning the basics so facts about the 2 different types of alpacas, how they're different from llamas and other animals, etc. As we move through the farm, studio, and barn, we talk about alpaca farming in general, why we have guard dogs, shearing, baby alpacas, the shows we go to, why we farm alpacas, and lots more. We walk through the center of the farm so there are alpacas on all sides. The alpacas approach the fence to check you out, especially kids. They are fascinated by anything shorter than them and they want to investigate. We try to make it fun for kids and still answer all the questions for the adults.
A few specifics about the farm, we are still working on our full accessibility around the farm, so there are stairs into the barn, any strollers, walkers, wheelchairs will need to be lifted. We do have a ramp up to the studio but there is a threshold to go over at the front door. The driveway and pathways are loose gravel which can make it difficult for some. Please let me know ahead of time if anyone has any specific needs and we may be able to figure out a way to accommodate, for example, we have farm vehicles like a gator that we can to a driving tour if necessary.
The average tour takes around 30-45 minutes and then, we end in our store space so that people can look around and ask any final questions. We do not allow physical interaction with our animals, but we have fiber samples to touch. The animals do approach the fences so there are lots of picture opportunities.
