Background :
The United States detonated two atomic bombs over the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on 6 and 9 August 1945 respectively. The two bombings killed between 129,000 and 226,000 people, most of whom were civilians, and remain the only use of nuclear weapons in armed conflict. The two bombs were nuclear fission bombs containing fissile materials as the fuel. When the nucleus of a heavy atom, like Uranium-235, is split by a slow moving neutron, it releases considerable amount of energy stored in the nucleus in the form of Binding energy . This is the essence of a nuclear fission reaction. Often, the released neutrons are made to cause further fissions in other nuclei under suitable conditions in a self-sustaining process resulting in the release of enormous amount of energy in a short span of time. A nuclear bomb is an uncontrolled fission reaction that cause widespread death and disaster.
