Summer Financial Aid Application
Please be advised that financial aid eligibility and awards will be determined according to divisional and federal guidelines, as well as the number of credits for which you plan to enroll. Students are required to notify the Office of Financial Aid of any changes in their enrollment status. Students considering summer study should be sure that their divisional Academic Advising offices allow for enrollment in summer session courses. Students must not have any holds on their accounts in order to register for courses, and they should also be making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) - for federal student aid consideration. Other restrictions may apply.
Summer Aid will not disburse prior to Monday June 1, 2020.
Students in The New School for Drama Master's Program are not eligible for summer aid. Generally, non-degree/non-credit students are not eligible for federal & institutional aid. Students pursuing very particular certificate programs may be eligible for federal or institutional aid. Alternatively, students may pursue private student loans with the lender of their choice.
General Guidelines for Summer Financial Aid:
Scholarships and grants vary by department.
Note that certain restricted, endowed, and supplemental scholarships are not available
for summer coursework.
Federal Financial Aid:
Students who are interested in Federal Financial Aid must complete the 2019-2020 FAFSA.
Note that the FINAL deadline to file a FAFSA for 2019-2020 is June 30, 2020.
Federal Direct Loans may be available to students enrolled at least half-time (generally a minimum of six  credits).
Note that students cannot receive more than their annual federal student loan eligibility.
Federal Loan Limits
Freshman $5,500(no more than $3,500 subsidized)
Sophomore $6,500(no more than $4,500 subsidized)
Junior/Senior $7,500(no more than $5,500 subsidized)
Freshman $9,500(no more than $3,500 subsidized)
Sophomore $10,500(no more than $4,500 subsidized)
Junior/Senior $12,500(no more than $5,500 subsidized)
Graduate level $20,500 (unsubidized only)
Federal PLUS Loans: Up to the remaining unmet need.
Pell Grants: Any remaining yearly eligibility.
Third-Party Aid: If you are receiving any form of financial assistance from organizations
outside of The New School (i.e. employer benefits, scholarships, etc.) you must notify the
Student Financial Services office of this additional assistance.
Note that failure to notify may result in an adjustment to your financial aid award offer.
Payment Plan: There is no payment plan available for summer session.
Study Abroad or Taking Courses Elsewhere: If you are enrolling in a Non-New School Study Abroad program (i.e. non-exchange), you must consult with your Study Abroad Advisor and file a Study Abroad Financial Aid Agreement if you wish to be considered for Federal Financial Aid.
Awards may be adjusted if there is any change in the information provided above or on your FAFSA application.
