Enjoy being outside and around the water? Want to learn more about fishing/ kayaking in the Des Moines area? Join Iowa DNR Naturalist Amber Piatt at Terra Park in Johnston, IA from 6-8:30pm to brush up your skills or to learn how!

This program is designed for beginner anglers/ beginner kayakers who have never fished or kayed before or beginners who want to freshen up their basic skills. We will learn about basic paddling techniques, boat safety and fishing regulations, gear & tackle, and basic kayak fishing techniques. The program is free, but if you are 16+ years old you will need a valid fishing license. Registration is not required to participate, but helps with our planning.

- Rods and reels are available, but if you've got one, bring your own!

- Kayaks are available, but if you have your own bring it!

- PFD/ Life jackets are available, but if you have your own bring it!

- Live bait will also be available

- Anyone over 16 will need a valid fishing license - Don't have one? Purchase one here

- Enjoy an evening on the water!

Join us for Beginner Kayak Fishing, Tuesday, August 15, 22, and September 5, 2023 from 6-8:30pm at the boat ramp, on the north side of the lake, at Terra Park in Johnston, IA. Look for the First Catch Center Banner to find us! To help us plan further, please complete registration below.
