Thank you for your interest in the Freedom Kitchen program! This class combines cooking and health with entirely healthy options, teaching the kids how to be responsible for themselves. Through the experience of cooking, the kids are learning how to follow a process, read, and do math (fractions!), all while becoming empowered to think for themselves. They learn creativity over convenience.

Virtual Classes with In-Person Option
For your convenience, all classes are pre-recorded and can be done entirely virtual, with weekly zoom support, making this accessible regardless of location or schedule.  The pre-recorded classes also make it easier for them to watch, rewatch, and even cook along with me in their kitchen at home. Practice makes progress!
Virtual classes are available online here, so you can see the quality of video instruction.

In-person classes are available in Oxford and Rochester; spaces are limited. 
Tuition
Tuition can be covered for Oxford Public School students if taking this as an elective (including "seated" students). Please coordinate with their counselor.

Tuition is $340, whether attending virtual or in-person. 
An additional material fee of $105 is for students attending in-person. 
(This is covered for full-time OVA students; however, part-time OVA student must pay the material fee.)

(This breaks down to $30/class, far below the industry standard of $55+ per cooking class)
Private pay families* are welcome to join us, either virtual (online) classes or in-person.  

*Private pay families will receive a discount based on number of children enrolled.
FAQs
  1. Can families outside of OVA participate?  Yes! Many families have participated, paying privately.
  2. Is there an additional cost for in-person? Yes, there is a $105 material fee for all students attending in person. Tuition covers the recorded curriculum & course materials; the Material fee is to cover the costs of needed materials for those that attend in-person.
  3. Can we take the class entirely virtual?  Yes, the course was designed for homeschool families, to work in around their schedule.
  4. Can "seated" students take this cooking program?  Yes! All Oxford Public School students can take Freedom Kitchen classes as one of their electives, and, regardless of school attended, the virtual (recorded) classes make it possible for all families to participate.  
  5. Are the kids required to cook at home if they attend in person?  If they are taking this for school credit, the school (state) requires a minimum of 3 hours / week for a subject, with the "cooking lab" being 1 hour of that. The kids are encouraged to cook at home because practice makes progress!  If our goal is to empower our kids, then practicing what they learn, at home, in their own environment, is important. 
  6. Is there is a discount for private pay families? Yes, to attend in person tuition plus material fee is required up front to hold the space, however, private pay families will receive a discount based on number of children enrolled.
  7. Does it cost more to eat healthy? This one has a more elaborate answer. At first the cost of healthy ingredients are higher than processed food (for example, almond flour in place of wheat flour); however, as a health coach of 16 years it is my experience that within 6 months that cost levels out because your family will eat less.  To explain my teachings, in a nutshell, we are overfed and undernourished because of processed food.  This class is the roadmap to get from processed food to real food. 

Our kids have been marketed to by the food industry through their business model called "The Addictive Food Business Model" where they target children to get them "hooked" ... the purpose of my class is to teach them 1) how to prepare their own food so they don't rely on these food companies, 2) what it means to eat nutrient dense foods, and 3) how to read labels and spot chemicals to help them live happier, healthier, free lives.

Buy what your budget allows for them to continue cooking. Based on the research showing a decline in health for our kids, I am just glad you are taking this step towards their independence.

Below are the class options for Fall 2026.

All in-person classes are limited to 10 students per class.

he virtual program is great for the whole family.  All of the classes are videotaped and can be done entirely at home. The feedback from other families has been very positive, stating that the entire family got healthier as a result of the lessons taught.

Classes in Rochester will only run with enough students (minimum 10 kids to add this location)

Career Exploration / Leadership Lab
Career exploration has been added as the cross-curricular activity for all MS and HS students, meant to combine information about the food system with business opportunities and careers, from composting to soil science, to farming and permaculture, and even 21st century "content creators" like food blogging and food photography. 

All of the opportunities presented are possible for the students to pursue now, possibly funding their college education.  We cover an opportunity every 2 weeks, like beekeeping, agritourism, worm farming, soil science, and more, through a semester-long project. 

Leadership Lab is integrating leadership skills by applying them to the choices and decisions we make.  The students learn about agriculture, the environment, and nutrition - from soil health to human health. After learning about  real food and how we cultivate it they then explore  the problems with our food supply and possible solutions. Additionally, we explore other cultures so that our young adults can go into the world more confidently.
