Hackney #moreincommon event Saturday 17 June
'Our communities have been deeply enhanced by immigration, be it of Irish Catholics across the constituency or of Muslims from Gujarat in India or from Pakistan, principally from Kashmir. While we celebrate our diversity, what surprises me time and time again as I travel around the constituency is that we are far more united and have far more in common with each other than things that divide us.'

A year after the brutal murder of Jo Cox MP we are determined to keep alive her vision (articulated above in her maiden speech to parliament), a vision that her murder was intended to abruptly halt. But many of us were touched by her vision and determined that it would live on. That is why we are holding a celebration of Hackney on 17 June, as part of a national celebration of the fact that our communities do indeed 'have more in common'.

We are working in partnership with Hackney Community College who will host this celebration event at their Shoreditch campus (Falkirk St, N1 6HQ). We envisage a display area with community stalls, as well as debates, workshops and performance arts. We also plan to have food stalls, and expect it to be a beautiful sunny day (hopefully!). The day itself is a blank canvass, and if your group wants to get involved, we are very keen to hear from you.

We have the venue, we have the vision, all we need now is the content, which is where you come in. If you are a Hackney based community, sports, campaign or arts group that has something to share, or indeed something to ask, the community, then please register your interest.
