The purpose of this therapy is to use heat and pressure to diffuse the purification properties of MRS Gunma Shungite deep into the muscle tissues and to support the function of all the cells of the body. The release of toxins and improved cellular function leaves you refreshed, calm, strengthened and clear. Most people wait until they have medical symptoms in order to try to improve their overall wellness. But, you don’t wait until your car breaks down to have a tune up, do you? My body feels so good.” M.I., Fitness Studio Owner A 5kg pad of shungite powder lines the massage table. 20cm pyramid and 10cm sphere are on the table by your head. A variety of sizes of warmed stones are used for the massage. Warm shungite water wet towels are used to wash your feet and to place on your eyes. To avoid allergic reactions, no nut-based oils are used. Generally, Renee uses grapeseed oil on your skin and stones to facilitate smooth movement. A light amount of essential oil is used in the grapeseed oil, in the room and for aromatherapy (direct breathing in). Please let her know if you are sensitive to smells. Blend of cypress leaf, peppermint plant, marjoram leaf, basil leaf, grapefruit peel and lavender flower essential oils. Benefits: Relaxation and release of muscle tension without getting sleepy. Dolphin and ocean music created in Florida, USA is played from the adjacent tatami room. Please let Renee know if you would like the volume adjusted. Avoid getting dizzy in the bath afterwards or from warming the body too much just before. It is best not to take a hot shower or bath 2-3 hours before or after treatment. Take in lots of shungite water drinks the day of and after treatment. Limit caffeine. We offer a variety of healthy cold, room temperature and warm drinks. Please do not hesitate to drink as much as you need. Avoid a heavy meal just before treatment, but make sure you have eaten a light meal or a snack. We provide healthy snacks for before and after treatment. Most are homemade by Renee. Enjoy! If you have been or are diabetic, please consult with Renee and your practitioner to see if this treatment is appropriate for you. Use the restroom prior to starting the treatment. If you need to excuse yourself during the treatment, there is a cotton yukata next to your clothes basket for your use. There is a heating pad on the table wall-unit air conditioner/heater for both tatami rooms. Please let Renee know if the temperature is OK. Communicate well with Renee! Here are some example areas that might need addressing during a massage: ✿ Room temperature ✿ Coverings ✿ Body pain or discomfort ✿ Kiyomizu Spa, the second floor of Kiyomizu House, is quite large (168m²/1800ft²) , but rest assured no one besides ourselves uses this area during your appointment. The door from the first floor and from the outside are kept locked. ✿ Renee keeps her cell phone nearby, and you can keep yours on if you like, for emergency purposes. Please take off all jewelry and clothing except for underpants and keep them in the basket and tray next to the massage bed. Renee allows you privacy while you get ready and comes in after you are under the sheets and call her. You also have private time to get dressed. Please take all of your belongings with you. ✿ Renee uses lots of towels to support your neck, knees and ankles. Please let her know if they need adjusting. Aside from the area Renee is working on, all parts of your body is covered and the towel tucked in so you do not get cold or feel exposed. ✿ Renee is careful not to touch your chest or genital area. For a whole-body massage, it is important to heat the glute muscles of your buttocks. Renee only touches this area when it is covered with a towel. Please tell her in advance if you prefer not to have this area worked on. ✿ Keep your arms in a comfortable position and adjust as necessary. ✿ The room is kept well ventilated and cleaned using anti-bacterial cleaners, shungite water, and essential oils between appointments. ✿ The air is cleaned with a high-powered Dyson air purifier, the window slightly open and the door to the next tatami room open. ✿ Shungite itself has bactericidal and anti-viral properties. We are not aware, however, of any studies related to shungite use for COVID-19. ✿ Masks: Renee wears a cotton mask lined with shungite. You are given a clean cotton mask with shungite to wear loosely while face up. You can take off the mask for face-down work. There is a clean pillowcase fitted onto the headrest with a large pocket so you can breathe easily. ✿ Your safety and well-being is our top priority. Renee does not have a ‘set routine’ for her massage. She reads the needs of your body and adjusts the movements and stone usage accordingly. Above anything else, Renee is careful to monitor the temperature of the stones and never applies hot stones directly to the skin without constant movement and sufficient pressure so the nerves near the skin are not damaged. ✿ Hot stones should only be used on muscle tissue. Renee is careful not to use it on bony areas, especially the rib cage, spine, breast and jaw bones. If she ever accidentally goes over a bone with too much pressure, tell her immediately. ✿ By agreeing to a hot stone massage, you are fully responsible for your wellbeing prior, during and after the massage.
