AP Exam Early Access Review Process

Thank you for your interest in registering for an AP exam with IUSD.

Please note that students in grades 9 and below, who are not concurrently enrolled in the IUSD AP course for the requested exam, must receive approval from the AP Early Access Exam Committee before registering for an exam at any IUSD High School.

For Students in Grades 10-12:
All IUSD students in grades ten through twelve may register for an AP Exam based on space and availability within our district. If you are in grades 10-12, this form is NOT for you. Please register directly at your home high school.

For Students in Grades 9 or below:  

Each 9th grade student interested in taking an exam in IUSD will be carefully considered by our committee. The purpose of this committee is to determine if there is a compelling rationale for the student to be provided access to the exam early and outside of typical student pathways. For most IUSD students, taking AP exams during the tenth through twelfth grade years provides sufficient access. Due to space limitations, Grades 12, 11, & 10 will have priority for open seats, beginning with seniors, then juniors, then sophomores, and finally freshmen.

The committee will consider the following: 

  • Student transcript information

  • Previous testing results (if available)

  • Student interview responses (if needed)

  • High School pathways

Fall 2024 Process:
Only AP Language exam requests will be reviewed in early November. No Zoom interview is necessary. Once we review your transcript, we will contact you with approval and a location to register.

Jan. - Feb. 2025 Process:
We will reopen the form for the remaining AP exams in January 2025. All other AP Exam requests will be reviewed AFTER February 1st, but prior to the late registration deadline of February 28, 2025. In early February, we will contact you via email to set up a Zoom interview with the student. Once the interview has been conducted, please allow 5 business days to receive notification of the outcome of your request.

Please Note:
The following AP exams are only open to students enrolled in the course due to the additional requirements of the exam. NO SELF-STUDY is permitted for these exams:

  • AP Computer Science Principles

  • AP Music Theory

  • AP Studio Art 2-D

  • AP Studio Art 3-D

  • AP Studio Art Drawing

Before completing the form to request review, please check this list* to ensure seats are available for your exam.

Please do not include any AP exam other than AP Language requests. These submissions will be deleted. You may fill out the form in January for all other AP exams. Thank you for your understanding.  *

If an interview is necessary, we will contact the student via email to schedule a Zoom appointment. The student needs to attend the appointment. We will schedule interviews for early access for all AP exams except for AP Language.
