2021 Discussion Meet Topics, Competition & Awards
Preliminary competition will occur in September 2020 to prepare contestants for the competition. No eliminations will be made from this round.
December 10, 2020 at Ohio Farm Bureau’s Annual Meeting at the Hilton Hotel in Columbus. Round 1 and 2 will be held from 9-11:30 a.m. Contestants will receive a free registration to the Annual Meeting. The top four individuals will proceed from this round into the finals.
Semi-Final Round 1 Question: The increasing frequency and intensity of natural disasters creates additional risk for farmers and ranchers. What tools and production practices can be engaged to reduce climate and weather risks?
Semi-Final Round 2 Question: Connectivity underpins the modern economy. What mix of investment and policy initiatives can provide reliable broadband access to farmers, ranchers and rural America?
Four finalists will be chosen to compete January 22, 2020 at 6:45 p.m. at the YAP Winter Leadership Conference in Columbus and will receive an individual complimentary registration to the conference.
Final Round Question: International trade is important to agriculture. We must continue working to build strong relations with existing customers while seeking out new trade partners to strengthen
market stability. How can we enhance existing and establish new and diverse foreign trading partners?
Must be an active member of a county Farm Bureau.
Must be 18-35 years of age prior to Jan. 31, 2021.
Must not have received a public speaking fee or honorarium in the past 24 months.
Previous state winners and current Young Agricultural Professionals committee members are ineligible.
Past and present members of the AFBF YF&R Committee may not apply.
