Alternative Breaks Participant Application: Spring 2018
Alternative Breaks (AB) Participants attend a one-week, service-learning trip to one of three destinations with a social issue focus. Spring break trips are: The State of Immigration and Serving the Community Outside UT and Examining Systemic Racism. Service-learning involves transformative learning, consistent reflection, and meaningful community service in order to contribute to social justice initiatives.

Applications must be submitted by 5pm on WEDNESDAY, October 10.

Selected finalists will be notified by Wednesday, October 10th of the invitation to attend an interview.

If accepted, participants agree to abide by all UT and AB policies and procedures, and uphold the five core values of AB: Learning, Community, Service, Simplicity and Active Citizenship and to attend the following dates

Applicant Mixer: October 21st; 4p-8p
Orientation: November 4th; 4p-7:30p
AB-wide event: November 18th; 4p-7:30p

In addition, selected participants must understand the trip fee and attend scheduled fundraising activities and spring meetings. The spring meetings will be every Sunday 5:00-7:00 PM starting February 3rd and ending March 10th. Upon your return from Spring Break, there will be a "Re-Orientation" Meeting on Sunday, March 31st. The events above are mandatory, and your attendance will determine your eligibility in the program.

The total program cost per person to attend is:

---- The State of Immigration (SouthTX) - $300
---- Examining Systemic Racism (New Orleans) - $350

Also if accepted as an AB Participant, a $50 non-refundable deposit counting toward this cost must be made at Orientation on November 4th via money order, cashier's check or personal checks (no cash). Payment must be made out to "UT-Austin", and delivered to Anabella Tarango, Program Coordinator.

Individual fundraising training and events will aim to offset costs for each participant.
