THE LOCK-IN POETRY SLAM @ PBH FREE FRINGE 2025
The Lock-In is a series of events that celebrates weird and wonderful slam formats.

As part of PBH Free Fringe this year, The Lock-In will be taking place between the 2nd-12th of August (excluding Mondays) in the Banshee Labyrinth between 19:00-19:55. Show link:

The slams we will be running are as follows:

Aug 2-3: Poetry Triathlon
Poets will be asked to prepare 3 x 3 minute max. poems, with no intros, to fit the themes: 1) 'Make Us Laugh',  2) 'Make Us Feel', and 3) 'Make Us Think'. Poets will be judged on how well they fit each theme.

Aug 4: Poetry Pentathlon
Poets will be asked to prepare 5 x 3 minute max. poems, with no intros, to fit the themes: 1) Humour, 2) Passion, 3) Experimental, 4) Emotional, 5) Narrative. Poets will be judged on how well they fit each theme.

Aug 5-6: Feature Set Slam
Poets will be asked to prepare a 10-minute max. set however they wish (1 x 10 minute poem, 4 x 1 minute poems w/ 2 mins of chat in between – it is your choice how you use your time). Poets will be judged on how well their set is structured.

Aug 7-8: Poetry Bingo Slam
Poets will be asked to prepare 3 x 3 minute max. poems, with no intros. Throughout the event, audience members will be filling in Bingo cards with common poetry tropes and cliches on them – this is a celebration of poetry tropes, so the poet with the most across the show wins!

Aug 9: 10 Hour Poetry Dash
Poets will be given a prompt at 9am on the morning of August 9th – giving them 10 hours to write a poem to perform at the slam that evening at 7pm.

Aug 10: Secret Gig

Aug 11: POETRY WAR GAMES
Two Team Captains will select a team each. The Captains will then line-up their team to fight it out and see who can make the best team of poets.

Aug 12: The Anti-Slam
Poets will be asked to prepare 1 x 4 minute max. poem. The worst poet wins.

THE LOCK-IN is about putting on a show, not about prizes – there may be small prizes depending on budget, but there's no guarantee. We will split the bucket among performers each night as you are who makes the night run!

THE LOCK IN is a place where everyone is welcome – unless you choose to act like a dick or in a way that makes others unwelcome. In this case, you are not welcome. This means: no sexism, no racism, no transphobia, no homophobia, no ablism, and no classism will be tolerated. No punching down, in or out of poems.

Strictly Poets Only!
