we created this work (my body is here but my heart is in haifa) as a response to james baldwin's
nothing personal, feeling that haifa in 2023
sounded a lot like new york in 1964. the text was originally published as a collaboration between baldwin and long time friend and iconic photographer, richard avedon. this essay was reissued as text alone in 2021. regardless of how many times we reread his essay, we remain engaged, moved and inspired. so now, we'd like to read it to you.
for the sake of the ceremony, doors will be closed at 7:10 so please plan to arrive early. reading will begin at 7:15.
feel free to bring a cushion to place on the uncomfortable chair. the space tends to get cold as well so be sure to dress in layers.
