2020 UMBC Underdog Invitational Registration
PLEASE READ BELOW; REGISTRATION HAS FILLED UP AND WE ARE NOW ACCEPTING REGISTRATION FOR OUR WAIT LIST.
Welcome to the inaugural UMBC Underdog Invitational! Our first-ever high school Mock Trial tournament will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2020, in the Information Technology/Engineering (ITE) Building on the campus of UMBC. Participating teams will compete in two trials on January 20th - one in the morning and one in the afternoon. All teams are guaranteed to compete once on each side of the case.
For the inaugural tournament, we anticipate a field of 12-14 teams. As a result, we can only accept one team from each school. This form will allow you to place a second team on our wait list. The registration deadline is November 15, 2019. After that date, we'll begin offering any remaining spots to teams on the wait list.
Some teams have expressed a desire not to face teams from their own judicial circuit. We are going to use an "opt-out" system for this process. This form allows you to opt out of facing another team from your circuit. If two teams from the same circuit are paired together, and one of them has opted-out, we will consider that an impermissible match and will re-pair those teams with different opponents.
The 2020 Underdog Invitational will recognize the top teams and top individual competitors. We'll recruit all of the judges and can guarantee teams a minimum of two judges in each trial. Our judging pool will be a mixture of attorneys and current UMBC Mock Trial competitors.
Finally, our tournament is completely free! UMBC Admissions will provide lunch to all competitors, and the UMBC Political Science Department is paying for food for our judges. Parking is free and convenient to the building, so your only expense should be getting your students to campus that day.
PLEASE NOTE THAT REGISTRATION HAS FILLED AS OF 8:00 PM ON OCTOBER 30, 2019. ALL ADDITIONAL REGISTRATIONS WILL BE PLACED ON OUR WAIT LIST.
