Most Wanted Corals
The Vieques Conservation and Historical Trust (VHCT) and Sociedad Ambiente Marino (SAM) are developing a Coral Restoration Project on Vieques Island. This project involves searching for and rescuing opportunity fragments and small fragments collected from wild colonies of several endangered coral species. However, the search for these corals has become a significant challenge due to the unprecedented coral mortality that occurred during the coral bleaching events of 2023 and 2024, associated with the record-breaking extreme marine heat event.
