HKIS Annual Conference 2018 - Developing Novel Solutions to Hong Kong's Housing and Land Supply Dilemma
For the seventh consecutive year Hong Kong has been ranked the most expensive housing market in the world. The city’s greatest perennial challenge is providing adequate, affordable housing solutions for its residents, and meeting long-term housing needs for its growing population. Homeownership in Hong Kong is a fantasy for the vast majority of its people. Merely renting a flat is a serious challenge.

Confounding the housing problem is the land supply crisis. More than 270,000 applicants are currently waiting for public housing and they are facing an average wait of more than four years. The lack of available, developable land is threatening Hong Kong’s housing, economic and social development sustainability. Supplying adequate land to help combat the housing market crisis and support our economic and infrastructure development will be Hong Kong’s greatest challenge for the foreseeable future.

Date: 22 September 2018 (Saturday)
