Purpose of the Study:

The purpose of this survey is to understand the experiences of children who will participate in the Minecraft Online Event - 2024 and the impact of the game on their learning and creativity about climate change and ecosystem-based adaptation (EBA). The information collected will help us to improve the project and enhance children's engagement with sustainable planning and civic engagement.

Procedures:

If you agree to participate, you and your child will be registered to enter our online Minecraft server during the event on March 21st - 28th, and you will be asked to complete a brief survey consisting of questions about your child experience with Minecraft. The registration and survey will take approximately 5 to 10 minutes to complete. All responses will be kept anonymous.

Benefits:

The benefits of participating in this study are that you will have the opportunity to provide feedback about your child's experience with the Online Minecraft Event, and your input will help to improve the project for future participants. As well as free access to age climate change information for children produced by the researchers and contribute to research about Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EBA) and local planning for young people.

Risks:

There are no known risks associated with participating in this study.

Confidentiality:

All information collected during the study will be kept confidential and all data will be stored securely. We will collect data during the study (Minecraft in game ID). Your child Minecraft 3D models and in game ID will be kept private. We keep everything locked up, secured and encrypted, so only the research team and trained researchers involved in the SCORE project will see them.

Voluntary Participation:

Participation in this study is voluntary, and you may withdraw at any time without penalty. If you decide not to participate, there will be no negative consequences.

Who is doing this research?

This study is a European project co-ordinated by Dr Salem Gharbia, from the School of Engineering and Design in ATU, Sligo, Ireland. The study is being developed by Dublin CCLL and UCD Spatial Dynamics Lab research team.
