CRITERIA FOR ENTRY
- The work to be single-volume, non-fiction (with or without illustrations), of genuine merit, for the 5-11 age group.
- The work to have been first published in the UK, in the English language.
- The work to have been published within the previous two calendar years, i.e. 2017 and 2018.
CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
There will be three judges, working in education, and normally comprising an established educational writer, a school librarian and a teacher. Judges’ works may not be entered for the award. Judges may call in works if they so wish.
Trade titles may be submitted, but not electronic materials.
The decision of the judges (both as to eligibility and the winning entry) shall be final.
The judges reserve the right not to make the award if, in their opinion, no works entered reach a sufficiently high standard.
For multi-author works the prize will be divided equally between the authors. For works illustrated by a named illustrator the judges may divide the prize between the author and illustrator at their discretion.
Works which are part of a multi-volume series may be entered for the prize. But if the prize has been awarded to a work which is part of a series, no further titles from that series may be submitted unless specifically requested by the judges.
Current employees (or anyone directly connected with the administration of the Society of Authors’ grants and prizes) or members of the SoA Management Committee may not apply for any of the grants and prizes administered by the Society of Authors.
