Getting to know you ...
In this section, please tell us more about you and your home environment. This will help us in picking the right potential fur baby for your home.
Do you have other pets in the house?  If so what type and how old?

We do have small dogs and cats in our home, so your new fluff will be well adapted to being around other creatures. Think about the animals you have and if they will be welcoming to a new pet. Because our puppies and dogs are well adapted to other critters they often go into new homes expecting to be welcomed, and showing little to no fear. Think about how you will introduce the newcomer into your home.

How long each day will your pup spend at home alone?

Coton de Tulears are bred to be companions - they are not a working or sporting breed - their sole job to to be with their people. As such they are happiest when they have someone at home to hang out with. Think about how long your pup will be home alone each day, and where they will spend this time. This will help me prepare your puppy for crate training if needed.

What is your plan for long-term care when you have to travel?

Cotons do not do well in kennel or boarding situations. They can do very well in a good doggie daycare setting but being
separated from their family or their home for extended periods of time can be a source of extreme stress and anxiety for any Coton. They should not be boarded or kenneled with strangers for extended periods!
Do you have small children or grandchildren? What are their ages?

We do not have kids, so we can not promise your new furball will be eager to be around them right away. In raising our dogs and puppies we do a lot of handling and socialization with the hope that they will be readily adaptable to any situation. They are used to being carried on their backs, and have been exposed to normal household noises and chaos, but knowing if there are children in the household will help us select a puppy that will hopefully be more engaging and child friendly.

Is anyone in your household allergic to dogs?

Pet allergies are one of the leading causes of having to rehome a pet. If you or someone in your house has allergies, it is still possible to live in peace with a pet, but you will have to be dedicated to a grooming routine to keep the peace. Often bathing you dog once a month will keep the pet dander at a tolerable level - are you ready for that commitment? The good news is that by the time our dogs and puppies are going to new homes they should be very used to the bathing routine and will  tolerate it fairly well.

If you rent/lease your home, does your lease allow pets? Does your HOA or town have any limit on the number of pets?

Confirm that bringing home a new fur baby is not going to cause issues with your housing situation.  Some leases, HOAs and towns have a limit to the number of pets allowed.

Are you financially prepared for annual wellness checks and any unexpected illness visits to the vet?

Pet ownership can be expensive! If you have never had a dog before, please look into the cost of vet visits before you make the lifetime commitment to a new pet. As puppies they will need to see the vet a few times to complete their puppy vaccines. At around 16 months they will need to have surgery (spay or neuter). As they grow they will need to see the vet annually for yearly vaccines and wellness checks. Your new Gil-VTales pet will come with 30 days of pet insurance from Trupanion, while this doesn't cover the routine visits, pet insurance is worth looking into, and another expense to consider.  Also consider the monthly cost of a premium dog food.

Have you ever had to surrendered a pet to a rescue or shelter organization? If yes, please describe reason

Keep in mind that adopting a pet maybe a 15+ year commitment.

About the pet you are seeking ...
In this section tell us more about the pet you are looking for.
Have you owned a Coton de Tulear before? If not, why now?

Cotons will require regular grooming. All of our puppies get their 1st bath before they are 5 weeks old , and should tolerate the grooming routine well by the time they are sent home. But I'd like to know your experience level with the breed.

Costs and details
Pet Coton de Tulear puppies are $3700. A $500 non-refundable deposit will be collected after the puppies are examined by a licensed veterinarian and deemed healthy. A verbal hold may be placed on puppies prior to the exam. The remaining balance will be collected on delivery.

Puppy's will be examined and vaccinated between 6-8 weeks of age, and an appropriate deworming protocol will be followed (typically deworming starts at 2 weeks old, and is administered until the puppy is 12 weeks old). All puppies will be microchipped prior to leaving. Our puppies are raised following the Puppy Culture protocols.

Are you interested in a puppy or a retired breeding dog? *
Do you have a color(s) preference? If yes, describe.

Please keep in mind the Coton's DO carry the fade gene, and it is not possible to predict what the final color of your puppy will be! A black and white puppy may be a silver and white adult. A tri-color puppy might be a solid white adult. OR they might maintain their colors into adulthood.  Also, keep in mind we do not have every color available every year, so if you are willing to wait, and want a specific color, please indicate that here.  I have heard of people that have been waiting for the right color for 3+ years.
Do you have a gender preference? If so, why? *
If you selected a gender above, please elaborate ...
How soon do you expect to add a Coton de Tulear to your home? *
What is your yard like? Do you have a fenced in area?

NOTE: INVISIBLE FENCES are not recommended. They cannot keep predators out nor can they keep a determined dog in.
*
Are you hoping to become a Coton de Tulear breeder? (We would love to have you - however, there is an additional fee for a potentially breedable puppy, and additional requirements.)
