IB Application of Intent
Central High School is committed to developing a community of learners devoted to academic excellence, good citizenship, and the celebration of diversity through an international education to as many students as possible. Based on Springfield Public Schools Open Enrollment Policy and established attendance boundaries, we will welcome all students zoned for our school and those outside of our attendance area who complete the Transitional Transfer into the IB Program.

Applications of Intent are required for any student interested in the Diploma and/or Career Programs, regardless of their attendance area in Springfield Public Schools.

1. Complete an Application of Intent, available on Central’s website.

2. The Application of Intent provides Central High School with student contact and school information as well as parent contact information.

3. Additionally, the Application of Intent asks students to write a short essay (200-300 words) reflecting on the IB Learner Profile traits with respect to themselves. The essay is used only to learn more about the student and is never used to limit access to students wishing to come to Central.

4. Application deadlines are determined by the IB Office on a yearly basis, based upon the district’s Transitional Transfer window.

5. Students and parents should understand that complete applications and transfer requests (if applicable) must be submitted to be considered for admission.

6.Applications turned in throughout the school year, or after the application deadline, will be considered based on available spaces per grade level.

At this time, families need to be aware that transportation is not provided for students outside of Central’s attendance area. We are pursuing new avenues with the district transportation to possibly provide busing for some families.

Admission Requirements

Due to the fact Central High School believes that our IB Programs can benefit all students, there are no specific admission requirements. Rather, we believe all applicants for the Diploma (DP) and Career (CP) Programs should understand that the faculty and administration at Central High School expect student applicants to be eager and motivated learners that will willingly commit to the academic rigors and expectations of the MYP, DP and CP curriculum.

1. Students and parents should understand by submitting an Application of Intent, they are committing to maintain the integrity of the IB Program.

2. There is an expectation of work done outside of the class within MYP courses in Grades 9 and 10, as well as the DP/CP courses in Grades 11 and 12.

3. To succeed in the IB Program, students must implement effective time management skills, exhibit a willingness to ask for help if/when needed, maintain good academic and citizenship standing, and regularly come to school.
