SEWA Canada is a leading humanitarian and development charity in Canada, serving the world since 1992. It focuses on selfless humanitarian efforts. in Canada and overseas. It serves the world in areas of education, health, disaster relief, empowering the underprivileged.
Sewa Canada's COVID-19 International Student Aid project aims at bringing relief to a large number of International Students from India, in Canada. This is also in response to a call from the Indian High Commission to extend any help possible to the very large number of Indian students in Canada.
Some of these students are have been in Canada only for a couple of months, have lost part-time jobs, face challenging financial situations, etc. On top of this, the risk of have going into isolation/quarantine if they are affected by COVID-19 any Canadian, compounds their challenge.
While we may not be able to serve everyone based on the availability of funding and geographical presence of its volunteers, we believe that every bit of help in any area counts and will help alleviate this situation during this pandemic. To this end, Sewa Canada in collaboration with its partners solicits request for assistance from International students from India in the following areas
1. Food Supplies (listed below) or Cooked Food.
2. Guidance on Covid-19 - what to do & where to seek medical help & how - in case of symptoms.
3. Connecting with community volunteers in their respective cities for local support - health & wellness.
4. Any other emergency situation or scenario not listed above. On a case by case basis, if within our ability and scope for support.
Any student requesting assistance is required to fill out this form. Some fields are marked OPTIONAL. However the more information you provide, the easier it is for us to evaluate your case among other applicants for support.
Please note that depending on the nature of assistance requested, the volume of the assistance requests received, availability of funding, presence of our volunteers in select cities, etc., we may not be able to serve every applicant, however, we will make every effort to identify the neediest cases and serve these cases. Hence please ensure every applicant provides accurate information to facilitate this process. Once shortlisted our volunteers will get in touch with you to facilitate support requested. You will be requested to provide Student ID, proof of Address and Immigration status, via email, when contacted, to help us serve the needy cases.
Please exercise due diligence in highlighting any food allergies or restrictions, in case of food supply requests. Please note in case of food supply assistance we prefer to ensure the supply of longer shelf life dry groceries for health reasons. For cooked food supply requests via third party food vendors, Sewa Canada will make every effort to select a vendor that complies with quality and proper health standards, as required by law. However, if the third-party vendor fails to satisfy these conditions, Sewa Canada will not be responsible for lapses on part of that vendor.
