舞蹈课教练季卫红出生成长在山明水秀，地杰人灵的西南省份贵州，自幼熏陶于民风淳朴，多民族聚居的少数民族地区，那里的苗族，侗族和布依族等少数民族皆能歌善舞，以此传情达意喜庆丰收，抒发自己的丰富情感。季卫红自幼耳濡目染，11岁考上贵州省艺术学院民族民间舞蹈专业，15岁毕业后成为民族歌舞团的骨干舞蹈演员之一，曾参加全国文艺汇演，并荣获舞蹈一等奖，演出常获美誉；19岁考入中央民族大学舞蹈音乐系，师从众多知名舞蹈家，专功民族民间舞，其中优以苗族舞最为精纯；毕业后回到民族歌舞团继续参加演出，并抽出时间传授，辅导舞蹈幼苗，拥有丰富的演出经验。2006年季卫红老师来到Sacramento地区，被华人圈中国舞蹈热潮所吸引，排练民族舞蹈为节庆活动演出。季老师已在新星中文学校授课舞蹈10年，积极投入各项活动并参加每年的春节联欢会，教授和编排了许多优美的民族舞蹈，深受大家的喜爱，推广和弘扬了中国民族舞蹈。

116. 珠心算班/Abacus and Mental Arithmetic

The instruction of Abacus and Mental Arithmetic, based on the abacus calculative theory, teaches students to visualize the abacus in their minds. Through a series of training lessons, a conditional reflex is formed mentally, and the students will learn these intellectual skills and rapid calculation methods. During practice, the students’ ears, eyes, fingers and brains are cooperating simultaneously, carefully looking up or listening to the questions, manipulating an actual abacus or imaging one mentally, and memorizing the answers to every step in the problem's solution. This effective and pivotal training improves children’s focus ability and
strengthens their memory.
The learning process involves doing mental exercises that stimulate the brain to react swiftly. It benefits the brain's concentration, memorization, imagination and reasoning. Just like a golden key unlocking intelligence development, mastering the abacus and mental calculation not only helps improve math skills, but also boosts the study of other academic subjects throughout any student's academic career.
The best age to start learning the abacus and mental arithmetic course is 5-12 years old. The course will be instructed by Mr. Frederick Ha, a UCD sophomore with excellent teaching experiences on this subject.

Virtually every tech device we use today, whether smart phones, computers, or AI technology, are programmed through codes; coding is one of the most fundamental skills to learn. The goal of the “Scratch Programming for Beginners” class is to help students develop this crucial skill through fun and engaging hands-on experiences. The class instruction will focus on Scratch, along with activities involving JavaScript. At each lesson, students will be able to develop an understanding of complex computer science concepts and learn how to apply this knowledge to construct their own games, animations, and other cool projects through the power of coding.
This course is recommended for students ages 7+, or any student who has an interest in learning programming languages/AI technology foundations. Laptops will be required for each lesson. Prior coding experience is not required for this course.
This course will be instructed by Katie Tu (DSHS junior) and Irene Xu (DSHS senior). They are members of the coding club at Davis Senior High School.

3. Refund and Late Policy:

1) Full refund if withdrawn before the third week's lesson (9/16/2023); 2) Refund 50% of the full-year tuition if withdrawn after the third week and before the start of the second semester (9/17/2023 - 1/20/2024). No refund if withdrawn after the start of the second semester (1/21/2024);   3) Tuition payment received after 9/17/2023 ( and after 2/4/2023 if pay per semester separately) will be subject to a $30 late fee.

      I acknowledge and agree that NewStar Chinese School has the right to cancel any class, and therefore refund the full tuition without charge of any processing/administrative fee.
