The International Veterinary Experience Scholarship is funded by the International Veterinary Experience Committee (IVEC) of the Student American Veterinary Medical Association (SAVMA).
The International Veterinary Experience Scholarship is awarded to deserving SAVMA members who demonstrate a strong desire to participate in a veterinary-related international experience. Twenty awards will be distributed this year in the amount of $750 each - six of which will be awarded for experiences carried out within the first 6 months of eligibility (January 19 - July 19, 2019). This is cycle 1.
Applications must be electronically submitted NO LATER THAN March 29, 2019 at 11:59 PM CST.
Applications will be reviewed by IVEC members in April, 2019. Recipients will be chosen and announced within the same month.
IMPORTANT DETAILS TO UNDERSTAND:
1. These awards are provided solely as retro-active reimbursements, where distribution of funds occurs after the proposed experience has been completed. Applicants must be able to fund these experiences by their own means initially. Please do not confirm experiences with the assumption funds will be provided up front.
2. ‘International Experience’ is defined as a geographical location outside of the country in which the applicant is enrolled and attends veterinary college. Ie: A student completing veterinary studies within the USA and is undertaking an experience in a different US state is NOT eligible.
3. This scholarship cycle 1 is for experiences that have taken place or will be completed from January 19 to July 19, 2019. There will be a second cycle of applications which will be awarded for experiences between July 20, 2019 and January 19, 2020 which will open at a later date.
Applicant must be a member (or affiliate member) of the Student American Veterinary Medical Association. Fourth year externship opportunities are eligible.
Following the international experience, the scholarship recipient must submit an essay to the Vet Gazette describing the experience and the impact that the International Veterinary Experience Scholarship had on the student’s experience.
