HELPING CHILDREN WORLDWIDE UMVIM APPLICATION
Applying and Being Selected for a United Methodist Volunteers in Mission Trip to Sierra Leone

Background:

Volunteers in Mission began when Jesus, finding Simon and Andrew beside the Sea of Galilee, said, “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matthew 4:19) People have answered Jesus’ call to mission ever since. The UMVIM movement arose spontaneously out of the local church, as United Methodists felt called to express their faith through hands-on mission.

Today tens of thousands of United Methodists each year serve as Volunteers in Mission. Ordinarily volunteers serve at their own expense and with support from their local churches. Participation on this HCW mission trip falls directly under UMVIM oversight, which requires compliance with their processes and procedures. Our teams have been traveling to Sierra Leone, West Africa since January 2002.

Team Member Selection:

To apply for a team, please submit a completed online application. Once you have submitted your application, your pastor or reference will be contacted. Then you will receive an email that your application is complete. The team member selection process typically begins 5-6 months prior to the trip’s departure. Helping Children Worldwide prayerfully considers the objective of the trip and the gifts of the missioners in order to ensure a strong and balanced team is selected. Submitting an application does not guarantee that you will be selected to serve on any given team.

Very Important, Please Read: Missioners must be at least 18 years old prior to the date of departure of the trip.
