2019 Application to Host a Cultural Immersion Program Site
After meeting once each month in 50-minute periods with students in three high schools in San
Jose for the past two years to increase cultural awareness and critical thinking skills, Tony
Browder (Founder and Executive Director of IKG-CC) partnered with Debra Watkins (Founder
and Executive Director of A Black Education Network) to pilot the program in Saturday
Academies in four sites (Dayton, OH; Los Angeles, CA; Fresno, CA; and Hayward, CA).

Due to the great impact these Saturday Academies had on the Browder Scholars and many of
their parents as well as their site coordinators, we decided to extend the opportunity to Black
communities across this country. For the 2018-2019 school year, we had 10 sites around the
country.

Before applying to host a Cultural Imperative Program (CIP) site, please be aware of the
requirements and the timeline associated with the process.
