Virginia PTA CAPITOL DAY - Jan 27th 2020
Join us for a morning in Richmond to advocate for the education, health, and well-being of students!
Virginia PTA is setting up meetings with legislators, preparing talking points and identifying bills that align with our approved resolutions and priorities (including the resolutions being considered at the 2020 Annual Meeting).
You will be paired with an experienced lead from your District. So, all you need to do is show-up and join your district for an enjoyable day at the Capitol to #TakeAction4Kids. Just like advocacy at a School Board meeting, your school-aged students are welcome to join you.
This is FREE event that includes the following for REGISTERED Capitol Day participants:
> Two Advocacy workshops on Sunday afternoon
> Grab & Go Breakfast on Monday Morning
> Package of materials for your legislator
SUNDAY, January 26, 2020 (Workshops at Virginia Crossing Hotel)
2:30 - 3:30 PM: Building Coalitions and Crafting an Advocacy Plan
3:45 - 5:00 PM: The Ask, Preparing to Take Action at the General Assembly
MONDAY JANUARY 27, 2020
6:45 - 7:15 AM: Rally at hotel to pick-up free breakfast bag and join carpools
9:00 - 11:30 AM: Legislator Meetings and/or watch the House Education Committee Meeting
9:30 am: Scheduled Group Tour of the Capitol Building
12:00 - 1:00 PM: Virginia PTA recognition on the House and Senate floor.
4:00 PM: Watch House Education K-12 Sub-Committee Meeting (OPTIONAL)
DRESS FOR SUCCESS & IMPACT
> Virginia PTA (royal) blue shirt, jacket, dress or scarf.
> Business professional clothes
> Shoes that are comfortable for walking
> Minimal metal accessories for fast passage through the metal detectors
(Blue scarves will be available for $5 in the PTA store over the weekend.)

I plan to watch some of the session from the House or Senate Gallery (12pm)
