CalArts Community Arts Partnership (CAP), a co-curricular program of California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), offers free after-school and school-based arts programs for youth ages 4-18 in every discipline taught at the Institute. To learn more, please visit

We invite you to sign up for the Sony Pictures Media Arts Program (SPMAP), a FREE 30-week after-school program offered through a partnership between the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, CalArts, and Sony Pictures Entertainment. This program is for students ages 12-18. This art and animation class explores topics such as the principles of animation, animation history, comics, storyboarding, story development, character design, world building, stop motion, video creation, and much more! Each class is staffed by a team of 4 instructors and has the capacity for 24 students.

All class meetings will take place online via Zoom for the entire Fall semester. Some classes may resume in-person instruction in the Spring semester depending on public health guidelines. Each of our 6 class sites follows a different schedule. Please choose a site that is close to where you live. Every student will receive free animation supplies in the mail.

Please Apply by September 19 at the latest. Enrollment will be confirmed on September 22. Due to the popularity of these classes, some applicants may be placed on a waitlist.

Important Dates:
-The Fall semester starts on October 4 and ends on December 18.
-The Spring semester starts on January 10 and ends on June 4.
-The final culmination event will take place on June 11 remotely.
-You will receive detailed class info once your registration is confirmed.
