Welcome, 2019 VOYCE Academy Applicant!

Project VOYCE was founded in 2006, by youth for youth. Project VOYCE's mission is to develop transformational leaders in underrepresented communities by training, employing, and organizing youth to address root causes of inequity. The VOYCE Academy is a 5-week train-the-trainer program that brings youth together between the ages of 14-25 to learn how to challenge systems of inequity by exploring topics related to identity, power, and privilege, and by learning skills such as civic leadership, participatory action research, community organizing/advocacy, and youth-adult partnerships.

PROGRAM COMPONENTS:

The VOYCE Academy lasts from June 2018-August 2018 and includes:
Orientation - June 20th
Mountain Retreat - June 24th-26th
Change-Maker Modules - June 27th-August 1st, Monday-Friday (10am-3pm)
Action Civics Cycle & End-of-Program Presentation (Public Policy Proposal or Workshop)
Youth Trainer Certification
End-of-Program Presentation & Celebration @ Wake Up With VOYCE - August 2nd 6-10am

PARTICIPANT PROFILE & COMMITMENTS:

VOYCE Academy participants must meet the following requirements:
Age 14-25 (rising high school freshman are eligible!)
Enrolled in school or post-secondary education with a 2.0 GPA
Live in Metro Denver (applicants living and/or attending school in zip codes 80205, 80216, and 80207 will be given priority)
Excitement to connect with peers and interest in developing leadership capacity
Be willing to engage in dialogue about identity, power, and privilege, on topics such as race, class, and politics
**90% of program spots are held for youth of color and youth eligible for free and reduced lunch

If you are accepted into the program, you agree to the following to the best of your ability:
Attendance at orientation, mountain retreat, 18/20 days of the change-maker modules, and Wake Up With VOYCE Breakfast (see Program Components section for important dates)
Participate in full Action Civic cycle resulting in Public Policy Proposal or Workshop Presentation
Present Public Policy Proposal at end-of-program celebration (Wake Up With VOYCE)
Not required but HIGHLY encouraged: Participate in 2019-2020 school-year programming if you attend a partner school of Project VOYCE.

MARCH 15th: LAST DAY TO APPLY TO THE VOYCE ACADEMY

The application process includes submission of an online application and in-person interviews.

Applications will be reviewed as they are received. Project VOYCE staff will follow up via email or text if you are selected for an interview. There will be a maximum of 30 spots in the VOYCE Academy and spots will be filled on a rolling basis. We encourage you to apply early.
