DEADLINE: Sunday, March 8th 2026, 11:59pm. No late applications will be accepted.

IMPORTANT: The Art Practice Department is a “high demand major” which means that not all students who apply to the major will be accepted. Applications are competitive. Your portfolio submission will play a significant role in the review process and we encourage you to submit your strongest work along with thoughtful writing responses. Please remember that the Art Practice Department is a fine arts program and we do not focus on design, illustration, character animation, and commercial art fields.

Do not fill out this application if you are a high school student or are not currently a student at UC Berkeley.

Requirements to apply to the Art Practice major:
-- Must have an overall minimum GPA of 2.0
-- Completed R&C (Reading & Comprehension) requirements
-- Completed or be enrolled in two studio courses: ART 8 (required) and any lower division Art Practice studio class (or its equivalent at junior college).
-- Completed or be enrolled in one lower division Art History course (any)

If you are unsure if you have completed any of these requirements, please contact Student Services Advisor Onisha Barham at obarham@berkeley.edu.

What to include in your Portfolio Submission folder:
1. Digital portfolio of 12 images (jpg, png)
2. Copies of ALL your college transcripts: current UC Berkeley transcripts and any colleges you have previously attended for credit. These can be unofficial copies, but must be clear and legible for us to read.
3. Statement of intent, answering two sets of questions
4. Optional: links to video or media samples
5. Optional: Image list with more info about your portfolio images: titles, date, dimensions, materials, short description (can be a Google Doc, PDF, etc.)

Upon review, applications will be notified of acceptance within approximately two weeks.
