WMEA Early Career Music Teacher Collaboration Project - Mentor Sign Up/Renewal
Thank you for volunteering to be a mentor. By completing this form, you agree to complete mentor training if/when you are paired with an early career teacher. Other expectations include the following:

Ask guiding questions.
It takes practice to become a reflective practitioner. Asking guiding questions can help an early career teacher process situations in the classroom. Make sure the early career teacher is doing the processing as much as possible.

Help determine an action plan for improvement.
Early career teachers often experience information overload as they acclimate to their teaching environment. Help the early career teacher develop an action plan for improvement that includes manageable steps across time. This can also include determining where growth is needed both with planning for instruction and the many managerial tasks expected across the academic year.

Reach out proactively and initiate communication.
Early career teachers are less likely to reach out for assistance, even if they may need it. Make sure to reach out to an early career teacher to check-in and see how they are doing.

WMEA will provide both early career and mentor educators with program parameters; however, information provided by mentors taking part in the Early Career Music Teacher Collaboration Project may represent views of the individual mentor educator and may not represent an approved position or policy statement from the Wisconsin Music Educators Association or its affiliates. Confidentiality is expected regarding specific school situations. Your participation in this program is voluntary and can be stopped at any time. Should you choose not to participate, please contact the Mentoring Chair.
