The Principal Investigator (PI) is typically a faculty member, or a contract researcher, who is an expert in the technology, service, or the training model of interest. The Entrepreneurial Lead (EL) is typically a postdoctoral scholar, graduate or other student, staff member, or an affiliated entrepreneur. The EL should have relevant knowledge of the technology, service, or training, and a deep commitment to investigate the commercial landscape surrounding the innovation. The EL is responsible for the overall management and reporting efforts on behalf of the research team. S/he should also be ready to support commercialization of the technology, should the team make the decision to go-to-market following the training program.
Registering research teams may also be joined by a "Business Mentor" who is typically an experienced or serial entrepreneur and who has experience transitioning related technologies out of R+D environments and into the marketplace.
