Purpose: To recognize outstanding school principals and/or superintendents who demonstrate support for and commitment to high-quality arts education programs in their schools. The influence of such administrators is a major factor in improving music education in school districts across Montana.
Elementary school principals, secondary school principals and school district superintendents may be selected to receive this award. Individuals holding titles such as assistant principal and assistant or associate superintendent also qualify. This award is not intended to honor music supervisors, music coordinators, etc.
Administrators receiving awards will be notified by the MMEA Executive Board and presentations honoring them will take place at the MMEA Annual Conference and the MHSA Annual Conference.
Outstanding Administrator Qualifications1. The school or school district under the administrator’s supervision must have an exemplary music program, with the majority of the music staff holding MMEA membership.2. The administrator must have served in the administrative position in the same school or district for no less than three years.3. The administrator must be an active advocate for arts education in the school and community.4. A financial commitment to music programs must be demonstrated in the school or school district.5. The administrator must show strong leadership, good school management, and good rapport with teachers, parents, students, and other administrators.
How to nominate an administrator: In addition to answering the following questions, nominators must submit the following documents to Mary Svenvold, email@example.com by June 1st• Two additional letters of support (completed by anyone except the nominator)• A picture of the administrator suitable for publicity purposes
