Empowering Students Through Literacy: The 2025 Delaware Spelling Bee Competition

First State Educate is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to lead the implementation of our county-wide spelling bee program. This key role plays a pivotal role in fostering a love of language and competition among students across the county. The County Lead will be responsible for various aspects of the program, including creating materials, securing district participation, and coordinating logistics for the county-level competitions.


Responsibilities:

  • Distribute District Outreach Materials:
    • Distribute informative packets for district administrators outlining the program overview, timelines, benefits for participating schools, and contact information; answer questions as needed
  • Secure District Participation:
    • Contact district officials and school board members to generate interest and secure district participation; track interest and sign-ups. 
  • Distribute Resources and Materials:
    • Provide participating districts with the necessary materials, including word lists, competition rules, judge training guides, and competition planning resources.
  • Promote County-Level Competitions:
    • Generate interest and engage local communities to promote the county-level competitions.
  • Secure Venue and Resources:
    • Identify and secure appropriate venues in each county to host the semi-final competitions.
  • Organize Logistics:
    • Manage logistical aspects like event setup, volunteer coordination, judging recruitment, and prize preparation.
  • Coordinate Competition:
    • Oversee the semi-final competitions in each county, ensuring smooth execution according to established rules.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Communications, or a related field (preferred) OR 3 years of experience in program development, outreach, and event management.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong understanding of spelling bee competition formats and best practices.
  • A passion for education and youth development
  • Ability to travel within the county.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and grant writing a plus.
