PROGRAMME FOR HIGHER EDUCATION STUDENTS WHO ARE CURRENTLY REGISTERED FOR Post/Undergrad DEGREES/ DIPLOMAS AT UCT OR INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING IN SOUTH AFRICA.
ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
The Hasso Plattner School of Design Thinking at UCT (d-school) would like to invite registered students from institutions of Higher Learning in South Africa for another exciting 12 week, extended introduction to Design Thinking.

The Foundation Programme in Design Thinking is offered to undergraduate and postgraduate students from all over South Africa, who are interested to learn life and career skills to prepare you for the future. Participants will be exposed to the following skills:

• Critical thinking and human-centered innovation
• Abductive reasoning for creative problem-solving skills
• Collaboration in diverse and multidisciplinary teams
• Empathetic approach to problem solving
• Build creative confidence
• Social and cross-cultural skills

You need to be able to commit two days a week (Monday and a Wednesday), over a period of 12 weeks, starting on the
25 February - 24 May 2019.

We guarantee a transformative learning experience!

You will learn to apply design thinking tools and techniques on a real world challenge, provided to us by Partners from the Public sector, Private sector, Academia and the NGO space. And will bring guests in to provide insights into how, what we are learning is relevant across sectors in SA.

Successful applicants from out of Cape Town, would be required to make their own travel, accommodation and living arrangements to attend the programme in Cape Town. The programme runs from 09:00 to 17:00 twice a week for 12 weeks.

* Please consider the travel and accommodation costs necessary for supporting yourself
for the duration of the 12 week programme, should you be from out of Cape Town area.
The d-school is unable to assist with these costs.

We require a student verification letter from your Institution, verifying you are a registered student. Forward a copy of the verification letter by email to: dschoolapplications@uct.ac.za with the subject line FOUNDATION SEMESTER 1 2019.

Qualifying Criteria
• You must be a registered South African university or any institution of higher learning student.
• We require a student confirmation letter from your institution, or if you are a graduate (not exceeding 1 year)
proof of graduation. This need to be emailed to: dschoolapplications@uct.ac.za.
• Age limit is 19 - 35 years.
• You need to commit to the full 12 weeks, attending 2 days a week (Monday and Wednesday). Should you not
attend all full 12 weeks, we will not be able to provide you with a Certificate of Attendance and UCT PLUS credits
(applicable to UCT students).
• This course is valued at over R15,000 and fully subsidized. A nominal tuition fee of R1,500 is required to pay for
materials used during the prototyping learning sessions.
