In order to ensure you are informed of the responsibilities of PTA Board positions before submitting a nomination, please review below key responsibilities for each PTA Board position.Each board member is expected to attend every meeting. If you cannot attend, you must coordinate with another board member to ensure your position and information is covered during the meeting that is missed.
President:• Serve as administrator over the Cody PTA Unit as outlined in approved bylaws• Preside at all meetings• Execute all contracts and other obligations in the name of Cody PTA• Serve as oversight over all committees except the nominating committee• Appoint chairs of the standing committees and special committees• Accountable to ensuring events are conducted appropriately by providing help and guidance to committee leads if needed.• Coordinate the work of the officers and committees• Disseminate and distribute information received from the National and Nebraska PTA offices• Prepare and submit the Unit End of Year Report and New Officers List to the NE PTA Office• Fully knowledgeable of all board positions and available to backup and confirm that each board member is fulfilling their duties as assigned.
Vice President:• Perform duties and exercise the powers of the President in the absence or inability of the elected President• Perform other duties as may be assigned in the bylaws
Secretary:• Convene the meeting in the absence of the President and Vice President• Record the minutes, including the tallies of all written votes• Collect all documentation and artifacts from board and general assembly meetings (i.e. current membership rosters, bylaws, special rules, standing rules, procedures, Insurance Certification, etc.• Have minutes of previous meetings and governing documents at all meetings
Treasurer:• Keep records sufficient to establish the items of gross income, receipts, and disbursements of the Cody PTA including number of members, amount of dues collected from members, managing the PTA budget, providing monthly treasurer’s reports that provide the details of all income and expense activities, serve as co-signer of all checks written from PTA account• Manage the deposit or cause to be deposited of all moneys and other valuable effects in the name and to the credit of the PTA.• Secure 2 signatures on all checks written• Prepare annual financial statement, an account of all financial transactions, and provide end of year financial report within 30 days after the end of the fiscal year• Be responsible for ensuring the completion of tax returns and other tax related forms.
As a Cody PTA Leader regardless of the board position, it is imperative that every board member embrace the uniqueness that each parent and staff member brings to our Cody school. Our PTA mission is to ensure that our events support the advocacy of parent involvement of our Cody kids, teachers, family and community. Through strong leadership and partnering with all parent partners, Cody PTA remains vital to Cody Elementary and enables parent engagement with the school.If you are interested in nominating yourself for a PTA Board position, please respond back with the qualities and experience you would bring to that position.
