IFEMA INTERNATIONAL FEMALE+ FILM FESTIVAL MALMÖ
- Sweden's oldest film festival with a focus on female directors!

Since its inception in 2006, IFEMA has created a space for films that do not appear in the regular cinema repertoire, giving the opportunity to take part in stories we do not know and gain perspective on realities we may not have thought existed. IFEMA will take place November 6-10, 2024 at Panora in Malmö, with screenings of feature films, documentaries and short films. The festival also includes film talks, seminars and director visits to promote discussion and networking for women filmmakers.

OPEN CALL - Short Film IFEMA 2024

The organization Imágenes del Sur/Bilder från Söder organizes the annual film festival IFEMA - International Female Film Festival Malmö which is a film festival focusing on women's stories and experiences from an intersectional perspective. IFEMA presents films created by all those who identify as women, among the top directors but also new and promising filmmakers in Sweden and the world.

This year, for the 18th edition of the festival, we invite women filmmakers from all over the world to submit their proposals for completed short films with a minimum length of 3 and a maximum of 30 minutes, in the following categories:

- Fictional short film

- Documentary short film

- Hybrid/experimental short film

RULES

In this year's edition of IFEMA, we want to showcase national and international films of value by women directors from an intersectional perspective. We aim to broaden the meaning of what it means to be a woman, taking into account the different cultural contexts that define women's agency and expression. The overarching theme of this year's festival is Resilience, that despite the prevailing power structures and unequal conditions of the world, filmmakers and films find a way to express women's perspectives and take their place against all odds. The body as territory, the intimacy of the home, nature as an ecosystem and the psychosocial health of young women will be at the center.

Filmmakers who identify as women are welcome to apply. New productions, maximum 3 years old ( from 2021 at the latest). Short films in languages other than Swedish must have English subtitles. Once the short film has been selected, a DCP screening copy will be requested by October 6, 2024.

In order to participate, it is necessary to be able to issue invoices for the possible payment of the audience prize. Participation will be done through the form published on our website and social media, by filling in all the requested fields. This is the only way for us to receive material for the selection.

SELECTION

The selection will be made by a festival team that will select the short films for content, representativeness and quality according to the festival standards. Between 4 and 8 short films will be selected for the festival. The selected productions will be announced on September 15, 2024, with specifications of dates for submission of screening copy and promotional material, with the possibility to confirm their participation before September 22.

All selected films will participate in the audience award ceremony. The films will be judged by the festival audience and the winning short film will receive the corresponding announcement and prize, which will be announced in detail at a later date.
