We are writing to ask you to act in support of Haiti’s women and girls. Haiti’s transition is failing them, in violation of clear legal obligations and best practices. The transitional government is neglecting women’s leadership, women-specific policy considerations, and the priorities of the women’s movement. The lack of any women with a vote on the Presidential Transitional Council is just one – egregious – example of this pattern. A new Women’s Minister trying to change and dilute the Ministry’s mandate away from advancing the rights of women and girls is another.
Haitian feminist and human rights organizations Nègès Mawon, Réseau National de Défense des Droits Humains (RNDDH), Bureau des Avocats Internationaux (BAI), Haitian Women’s Collective (HWC), Rezo Fanm Kapab DAyiti (REFKAD), RADIKAL, Fondation TOYA, Gran Jipon, Rezo Fanm Radyo Kominote Ayisyen (REFRAKA), and Commission Épiscopale Nationale Justice et Paix (CE-JILAP), joined by solidarity partners Institute for Justice and Democracy in Haiti (IJDH), MADRE, Center for Gender and Refugee Studies (CGRS), Global Justice Clinic at the New York University Law School, Human Rights and Gender Justice Clinic at the CUNY School of Law, and American Jewish World Service (AJWS) deplore these persistent failures and are deeply concerned with their impact on Haiti’s women and girls and the success of Haiti’s transition more broadly.
We ask you to join us in demanding urgent measures to secure the rights of women and girls as part of Haiti’s transition by endorsing our Policy Framework for an Effective and Equitable Transition (KR/EN/FR) that will put Haitian women and girls at the center of the transition, where they belong.

Nous vous écrivons pour vous demander d'agir en faveur des femmes et des filles d'Haïti. La transition haïtienne manque à ses devoirs envers elles, en violation d'obligations légales claires et des meilleures pratiques. Le gouvernement de transition néglige le leadership des femmes, les considérations politiques spécifiques aux femmes et les priorités du mouvement des femmes. L'absence de femmes disposant d'un droit de vote au sein du Conseil présidentiel de transition n'est qu'un exemple - flagrant - de cette tendance. La nouvelle Ministre des Femmes qui tente de modifier et de diluer le mandat du ministère en l'éloignant de la promotion des droits des femmes et des filles en est un autre.
