Application for Membership
There are 3 easy steps to becoming a block parent:
1. Complete and Submit a Block Parent application listing all individuals in your household.
2. Complete and Submit a Criminal Record Check (CRC) with the RCMP for every household member 12 years and older. (A letter will be provided to obtain your volunteer CRC at a reduced rate.)
3. Complete a “Safe Home” screening and orientation. Following this if all criteria are met you will receive your sign.
As a Block Parent your responsibility is to display the sign when you are home and available to assist a child in need. It is important to remember to take your sign down when you are leaving your home and / or when you’re home but not available to assist.
Block Parents do not have to attend meetings or pay any fees and there is no set time commitment – if you can spare 2 hours or 20 hours per month every little bit helps.
Your membership with the Block Parent program is renewed every 2 years. This requires an update to your contact information and Vulnerable Sector Checks for any household member aged 12 and older.
If you know of anyone who would like to become a Block Parent or learn more about the Block Parent program, please share our contact information. The Grande Prairie & Area Block Parent Association can be found on Facebook!
