πŸ”ΆπŸ”ΆπŸ”Ά Mentor Responsibilities πŸ”ΆπŸ”ΆπŸ”Ά

As a Pitch Wars mentor, you will sort through submissions that are typical of publishing submission materials, then choose one author from those submissions to mentor. The number of submissions per mentor can vary from 50 to 300+, depending on category, genre, and wishlist. You're encouraged to ask applicants for additional material or information in order to help you make your decision.

You can bring in a submissions reader to help you sort through your submissions if you are overwhelmed. However, your submissions reader is not a co-mentor and should not have communication with mentees.

During the mentoring period, you will guide your mentee through a full edit (at least two passes) on their manuscript, query, and short pitch. Most mentors also provide support and guidance on navigating the publishing industry. You are welcome to do more work with your mentee, but these are the basic requirements.

The 2018 schedule is:
May 15, 2018: Mentor Application Window Opens
May 30, 2018: Mentor Application Window Closes
July 15: 2018 Mentors Announced
August 14 – 27, 2018: Mentor Blog Hop
August 27-29, 2018: Mentee Submission Window
October 12, 2018: Mentees Announced
October 12 - February 2: Editing Period
February 6 – 11, 2019: Agent Showcase

πŸ”ΆπŸ”ΆπŸ”Ά Co-Mentoring πŸ”ΆπŸ”ΆπŸ”Ά

Co-mentors must apply together, filling out the form once, as a team. There is a section for "Mentor 1" and a separate section for "Mentor 2." The questions for Mentor 2 are identical to Mentor 1's. Please also be prepared to answer whether either mentor applicant is interested in volunteering as a reader or in any other capacity if not chosen as a mentor.

Submission confirmation will only be sent to Mentor 1's email address.

Co-mentors are welcome to divvy up the work in a way that works for them. We don't dictate co-mentors' division of work.

We will not be matching up people who apply individually with co-mentors. If you would like a co-mentor, you should find one before you submit your application.

If you are applying without a co-mentor, you are "Mentor 1."

If you mess up and would like to fill out the application again; there's no need to contact us. Simply fill it out again and (as long as the email address is the same) we will use the most recent form.

Are you published or do you have a publishing contract? *
Use your best judgement to determine mid-size vs. small publisher. Mid-size publishers typically have national bookstore distribution. If you have paid fees to a publisher, please check "self-published." If it's been years since you've had a book published, the answer is still "yes."

Please include internships here. Experience may include: literary agencies, book publishers, magazines, newspapers, websites, blogs, etc.
If you answered yes to the previous question, please describe that experience.

Which genres would you place on your mentor wishlist? (check all that apply) *
Assume genre is specific to your age category, unless otherwise labeled; i.e. if you selected "YA" above and "romance" below, we know that you mean YA romance. If co-mentoring, this should describe what you would accept as a team, not what each individual would accept if mentoring alone.
