Mahalo for the many idea birds added to our wishing tree at our ‘ohana fest. This month start with a focus on getting organized and connected. Here we go!
9 - 11:30 Managing Mahem. 1000 emails, 40,000 files! Now what?
This month weʻll attack some bread and butter basics. Ross will walk you through a basic review of where your mail and files go and how you can keep them organized and retrievable. - what do I do with my 1000+ emails in Apple Mail and Gmail
- why and how do I create smart mailboxes? add my Gmail account to Apple Mail? use Apple stationery?
- where do my files go when I save an attachment on my iPad or iPhone? how can I search for it later?
- if I have iCloud why do I need a hard drive?
- how can I make and use folders in folders in folders? why would I?
- why and how do I set up TimeMachine?
- how do I search for docs using Spotlight and Command-F (Find) - and whatʻs the difference?
These are the basics of file management. Later this year Arlen will do a more advanced session for managing your files and apps so letʻs get ready!
12 - 2:30 June Project - Facebook and YouTube - try it, you might like it!
You may think "Iʻll never so social media, itʻs not for me." Well that may be but come and try it and see how you like it. Its great for families and actually can save a lot of email time and help you keep contact with folks far away, or near by! 8-)
Jody Yamamoto will lead us in our first project for the year... creating a Facebook page and then for practice, friending each other, posting messages and adding photos and weblinks. Weʻll also show you how to create a YouTube account, upload a video and subscribe to someone elseʻs videos. Using the Firefox add-in you can download YouTube videos to your computer. Facebook is not just for showing folks what you ate for lunch. Itʻs for sharing important and fun things with your friends and learning about what theyʻre doing. Jody will give you tips on doing it safely and how useful it can be.
Note: Youʻre welcome to come and just listen but I recommend you create Google and Facebook accounts so you can participate and practice with us. Since you may not want to use your regular email account or Apple ID address for this kind of activity, create an new account without any REAL personal information at Gmail (
https://accounts.google.com/sigNup) or any free service. Use this email address for creating your Facebook account (
https://facebook.com )
You can use this account when you signup for other services that you want to keep separate from your regular email.
Be sure to bring your Google and Facebook logins and passwords to the workshop. If you need help setting them up let us know and we can help you.
