Instructions
Please submit your proposals with as much detail as possible, but do not worry if your ideas are not completely developed!

If you have any supporting documents (e.g. spreadsheet of budget, design plans, images, etc.) that further clarify your project idea, please email them to lifc@ssmu.ca!
About the fund
The fund is made possible through student fees, which are matched by alumni donors each year. It is overseen by the Students’ Society of McGill University (SSMU) and the Library Improvement Fund Committee (LIFC), and it works to ensure that the McGill Library meets undergraduate students’ most important needs. Previous projects that the LIF has funded include extended opening hours, the expansion of a laptop lending program, and student jobs at the library.
Proposals are evaluated with the following criteria:

NOTE: Please keep in mind the upcoming Fiat Lux project, particularly for any proposals related to the HSSL library.

What is Fiat Lux?

The Fiat Lux Project is the transformation of the McLennan-Redpath Library complex into a new library filled with service and space offerings for the digital era to better respond to the needs of McGill students. The new library will be a light-filled, open-concept space that favours flexibility and multifunctionality to support different modes of learning, as well as health and well-being. The new library will nearly double available seating. The increase in seats will be achieved by relocating a sizable portion of the book collection to the new McGill University Collections Centre, from which items will be delivered 5 days per week. Construction is currently anticipated to begin in 2025 and will take an estimated two to three years to complete.

Proposals for HSSL will still be considered, but we encourage you to also select other library branches where your project might be implemented!
