RIS Volunteer & Intern Application
Refugee and Immigration Services of Catholic Charities of Central and Northern Missouri is the only local governmental non-profit refugee resettlement agency. We provide resettlement services to all newly arrived refugees in Columbia, MO. We have legal requirements that must be fulfilled and while we're limited on resources, we love to extend our services beyond our minimal requirements to offer the most to our clients--we couldn't do it without community support and people like YOU! If we would like to move forward after reviewing your application, you will complete an interview, criminal background check, sign agreements, and receive an agency orientation prior to volunteering.

Availability
During which hours are you available for volunteer assignments? Our regular office hours are 8:00am-4:30pm Monday-Friday; however we are closed to the public on Fridays and the workload varies on that day. We recommend that you have at least a 3-hour block of time to serve in office, as opportunities are limited during short windows of time. We typically put you on the same weekly schedule, but we can be flexible depending on your assignment. After-hours opportunities are available on evenings and weekends (mostly in-home tutoring), and are generally more self-directive. At least a 3-month commitment is required, unless you're looking to participate in a short-term, individual project you have in mind.

Interests & Positions
Tell us in which areas you are interested in volunteering. Not all areas are in demand for new volunteers. Please check ALL areas you are interested in volunteering and we can talk about what your availability allows you to do and what our highest needs are. Our needs fluctuate over the months, especially with the beginning and end of Fall/Spring/Summer academic semesters. Some in-office opportunities are only available to people who have a 4-hour window of availability or more. Driving an office vehicle is a requirement for some positions.

Our Policy
All volunteers and interns must schedule an interview, pass a criminal background check, and attend an agency orientation before beginning service with our office. Depending on how long it takes the background check to clear, schedule orientation, and make arrangements for the position you will fill, it is possible that the process could take up to 3 weeks; other times it could take closer to one week.
