General Rules
In order to keep the classes and studio safe, organized, and disciplined, please follow these rules.
1. Children must not exit the building until the designated individual picks them up.
2. No food or drinks in the building (water permitted). No gum or candy in class.
3. No street shoes are allowed in the studios.
4. No swinging or hanging from ballet barres in the studio.
5. No outside visitors other than family and designated individuals for student pick-up/drop off are allowed on the premises of Emporia Dance.
6. No horseplay is allowed on the premises of Emporia Dance.
7. Jewelry (other than stud earrings and one or two finger rings) must be removed.
8. Parents will be notified of consistent, disruptive behavior of their child. If a parent is notified for the third time, the child will no longer be allowed to attend class.
9. Cell phone use is prohibited during class time.
Dress Code
Hair must be secured in a bun, braid, or ponytail (out of the face and off the shoulders).
Pink ballet shoes, black tap shoes, and black jazz shoes should be bought as needed.
Tights or socks MUST be worn with shoes. Follow appropriate dress code:
Art of Movement – Solid color leotard, pink or nude tights. Ballet slippers. Ballet skirt optional.
Pre-Ballet – Solid color leotard, pink or nude tights. Ballet slippers. Ballet skirt optional.
Pre-Tap- Solid color leotard, pink or nude tights. Velcro closure tap shoes. Ballet skirt optional.
Ballet- Solid color leotard, pink or nude tights. Ballet slippers. Ballet skirt optional.
Tap- Solid color leotard, pink or nude tights. Velcro closure tap shoes. Ballet skirt optional.
Jazz- Solid color leotard, pink or nude tights. Jazz shoes. Shorts or jazz pants optional.
Hip Hop- Solid color leotard, pink or nude tights. Jazz shoes. Shorts or jazz pants optional.
Baton- leotard, tights, and jazz shoes *batons will be ordered custom to child*
Lyrical- leotard, tights, and jazz shoes
Students are expected to have all dancewear and shoes by the 3rd week of class. If a student arrives to class out of dress code, they will be asked to sit out of class.
Punctuality and Transportation
1. Arrive for class on time. This is to avoid loss of class time and to ensure that students have a proper warm-up. See that students are picked up promptly after class
2. Students are to arrive no earlier than 15-minutes prior to class time and must be accompanied by an adult when entering the studio.
Payment and Fees
1. Classes for each month must be paid for by the 5th of the month at 11:59 pm EST. A $20.00 late charge will be incurred for late tuition.
2. Any returned checks will cost $30.00.
3. Costume Deposits are non-refundable.
4. Notification mut be provided to Emporia Dance in writing prior to withdrawing from class. Class withdrawal in writing is due prior to the 5th of the month, or that monthly fee is still due.
5. Emporia Dance tuition fees are non-refundable.
6. If class payments are still unpaid by the 5th of the following month, students will not be allowed to participate in their classes until the account is in good standing.
Costume Payments
Information regarding costume payments will be given out in November.
If your child(ren) is enrolled in classes, and written withdrawal is not given prior to November 5th, ALL costumes fees are still due. Any outstanding balances for costumes after December 31st at @ 11:59 pm EST will incur a $20.00 late fee. ALL COSTUMES FEES MUST BE PAID PRIOR TO THE ORDER OF COSTUMES.
Low Enrollment
Classes are subject to close or change at any time if the class does not fill or enrollment numbers fall below the required number of students necessary to run a class.
Housekeeping and Personal Possessions
1. All trash should be disposed of in trash cans provided.
2. Mirrors in the studio should not be touched.
3. Book bags and other belongings must be placed in assigned areas or under chairs in the waiting area. Please do not keep these items in the restrooms. Emporia Dance is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Restroom and Water Breaks
Between classes students will be allowed to use the restroom and drink water. Bottled water should be brought to class to be consumed at this time (not during class, unless designated by instructor).
Privacy
At Emporia Dance we value the privacy our studio, staff, students, and information. The sharing or taking of personal payment arrangements, studio information of any kind and unauthorized photographs of any kind is strictly prohibited.
Negative or derogatory statements on social media regarding staff, students, or the studio is strictly prohibited.
Attendance Policy
Since dance is a team art where the dancers rely on each other to perform at the end of the year, attendance and commitment are very important. Students must attend at least half of the classes offered for each class they are sign up for during the dance season and attend the dress rehearsal to participate in the dance recital.
