It is difficult to imagine a Director of Music at Trinity other than Walden Moore, who has been our beloved organist, choir director, youth minister, coordinator of liturgy, unordained priest and prayer warrior in service of so many people’s happiness and soul wellness. As we approach Walden's transition, we proceed inspired by his example and love for Trinity’s music ministry. Thus far the following timeline and steps will guide us toward hiring his successor:
1. Research (2021/2022) Hiring a new Director of Music for Trinity’s music program, including the Trinity choirs and the liturgical variety that characterizes Trinity’s worship tradition, requires a deeper look into the wider choral tradition of the Episcopal Church in America. We must consider the long-valued traditions of our current music program as well as the hopes and desires for the program of the future.
2. Preparing the Search Committee & Legacy Committee (September - December 2022)
Search Committee: to begin the search for a new Director of Music, the Trinity community needs to gather and collect opinions for the profile, based on preferences from within our community. The Search Committee will gather and coordinate these profile impressions.
Music/Legacy Committee: will focus on celebrating Walden’s 40 years of service and the coinciding 20 year anniversary of the Girls' Choir.
3. Compiling the Profile and Application Process (January - March 2023) To refine the profile for a new Trinity Director of Music we will consider:
All research information including community input
Guidance of the current music staff
Input of the Music Committee and Vestry
Guidance from outside advisors
4. Advertising the Open Position (April-May 2023) by listing in the appropriate locations, connecting with the network of Trinity organ scholars, and other professionals in the field.
5. Application process: (May 2023- August 2023) With the profile in hand Trinity will begin to review applications. Trinity will actively scout and explore possible candidates to ensure attraction of the best potential matches.
6. Interviews and Hiring: (June 2023 - February 2024) The interview stage will necessitate an interview team, interview criteria, a selection process, and visits on site of the finalists.
7. Transition: (March-August 2024) While the parish celebrates Walden as outgoing Director of Music, Walden and the new Director of Music will prepare for the transition through conversations and guided visits.
In the Episcopal church we rely upon the sound judgment of the Rector and the elected Vestry to make the ultimate decision on staff hiring. That, however, does not diminish the need and value of the input from our community. We invite and encourage all parishioners to provide their thoughts, hopes, and wishes for the future of our music program. Please use the following space to provide feedback. We want all voices to be heard in this process.
