VAPS Submissions 2020
Submission Deadline - February 1st, 2020

We are accepting student presentation proposals for the annual meeting of the Virginia Association for Psychological Science (VAPS). Presentations will take place on Monday, April 20th, 2020, in Charlottesville, VA.

All undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to submit proposals relevant to any area of psychology. Proposals must report empirical research. It is not required that data be collected at the time the proposal is submitted; however, it is expected that original data will be presented at the conference. Students who submit proposals must be a member of VAPS and must be sponsored by a faculty member who is a current member of VAPS. If selected, the presenting student(s) must register for the conference. Proposals will be accepted or rejected based on the quality of the proposal -- including clarity, relevance, and completeness. Filling out this form constitutes a complete submission. Only submissions received by Friday, February 1st, will be considered for the program. Additional information regarding the meeting may be found at

Papers are limited to fifteen minutes, *including* three minutes for questions, and must be presented by a student author.

Posters provide a written or graphic overview of research or programs, and typically include a brief abstract and graphics (tables, figures, or pictures). Poster presenters will be provided with an easel to accommodate one 32 by 40 inch poster board. Presenters must be available for questions during the poster session. Presenters must bring their own materials to tack or tape their poster to the poster board.

The Virginia Association for Psychological Science, with the support of the Virginia Psychological Foundation, sponsor four awards for outstanding undergraduate and graduate student papers and posters. Students will be considered in a single appropriate category provided 1) they are the primary author(s) of their paper/poster and 2) they, themselves, deliver the presentation. In the case that there are fewer than five (5) presentations for a given category, the awards committee reserves the right not to offer a prize within said category.

Special Notes:
Students must join VAPS as student members in order for their presentation to be approved ( There is no fee for joining VAPS as a student, but there is a $25 fee to register for the conference. There is a $50 membership fee for faculty members. Please note that joining VAPS and registering for the conference are two separate processes.
