Mount Mary University's Summer Leadership Academy is a 3-day residential program, June 23-26, 2019, that provides an immersive leadership and college-readiness experience for up to 65 incoming high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. The Academy will prepare these young women to succeed in college and beyond through career exploration, promoting self-awareness and developing vital skills in leadership, ethics, confidence, communication, and care for others.

Peer Mentors will work as a team with trained Adult Mentors. The role of a Peer Mentor is to help facilitate small group meetings as well as support and encourage Summer Leadership Academy participants. Peer Mentors will be a knowledgeable guide for new academy participants, a thoughtful facilitator who provides access to people and resources, an assistant during transition times and meals, and ultimately a role model and advocate. Peer Mentors must have previously completed the Summer Leadership Academy program.

- Serve as an energetic and enthusiastic volunteer to help participants succeed at the Summer Leadership Academy.
- Develop and maintain relationships with and provide assistance and support for participants (focus on a smooth transition, acclimation, and a sense of belonging).
- Serve as a facilitator for small groups with adult mentor partner.
- Participate in training and small and large group programs and activities.
- Serve as a positive role model.

Sessions for career and personal development led by Milwaukee business leaders and Mount Mary faculty include: Leadership development, public speaking, networking, college readiness, college application and financial aid process, confidence building, mindfulness and teamwork. In conjunction with adult partners, Peer Mentors will lead discussions based on content from these sessions. The purpose is to continue the conversation and help participants reflect on what they are learning.

Peer Mentors will have the option of staying in the residence halls. Peer Mentors will room with other Peer Mentors and will assist and encourage friendships and camaraderie among the Summer Leadership Academy participants, building mentoring relationships and extending the learning experience beyond the formal program sessions, as conversations continue over meals and through the evening.

Application Deadline is April 1, 2019. Should more than 8 Peer Mentors apply, a selection committee will review the applications to make a final decision. Applicants will be notified by May 1, 2019. There is no fee for this program.
