The project is a sculpture that has a sound piece in it that is made up of the coming out stories of people who are Catholic and/or Slavic or similar. It will be exhibited at the art space Flux Factory on Governor's Island from August 19-September 10.

The sculpture is a series of shrines modeled after those found in Eastern Europe in places such as the edge of a field or swamp. Each one has a Mary which is covered up, and each Mary has a walkie talkie in her that broadcasts the stories for 2 miles. It is inspired by a map run by activists called "Atlas of Hate" which shows areas of Poland where there were "LGBT Free Zones." Some of these places are where my family originated from, which are also rural and very Catholic and have a lot of these shrines. Ironically, these types of shrines are from pre-Christian times.
