Developing a National WAC Organization
This survey is being distributed by the co-chairs of the International Network of Writing Across the Curriculum Programs as a follow-up to a meeting at the 2016 IWAC conference focused on the future of WAC and the question of whether or not it would be beneficial to create a national organization for WAC. The purpose of this survey is to gather voices from across the field of WAC on the subject of whether or not it would be beneficial to create a national organization for WAC, and if it would be beneficial, what should the mission of the organization be? Data from this survey will be shared at a follow-up meeting on the future of WAC at the 2017 CCCC in Portland, which we hope you will attend (Saturday, March 18, 10:45-12:00, Convention Center B118).
What is your current role in WAC? (check all that apply)
Currently, the field of WAC does not have a national organization, although it is led by a group of affiliated organizations (i.e. the WAC Clearinghouse, the International Network of WAC Programs, WAC journals, WAC conferences, etc). In your experience, what has been working well about the ways in which WAC as a field has been organized?
Have you experienced any limitations in the ways that WAC as a field has been organized? If so, please explain.
If a national WAC organization is developed, what do you think should be included in its mission/goals?
If a national WAC organization is developed, what types of resources would you want the organization to provide?
If a national WAC organization is developed, are there any specific rules you feel would be important to be included in the bylaws (e.g. voting procedures, term limits, board membership, etc.)?
What disadvantages are there to developing a national WAC organization? Please explain.
Are there national organizations that you feel would provide a good model for a national WAC organization?
Do you have any other comments that you would like to make, and is there anything not included on this survey that you think should be part of the conversation?
